Halfbiking

It didn’t feel too windy on the roads of Shelby Hills but Davidson was in a constant strong crosswind & I’m lucky that traffic was light. Halfbikes turn you into sails at the mercy of every wind.

I gambled correctly that 3 laps around the “infield” of the park wd get me to 10 miles. Then all I needed was a safe way home. Only had Davidson again to work with.

The route looks rather like a Preying Mantis

Against the wind

Too much wind today for the Halfbike so I took Mr Tib out for a 26 mile wind-fight. My tires were green from pollen but it was the wind which was difficult.

The Coming Storm

I look forward to the new Stadium mostly so Davidson will have a natural loop=around again, but today I used 5th & then back up Cutcher to make a loop.

The park itself was nearly empty.

One day these will be the Good Old Days

Sprinting in the Climbing Gear

The pollen today was terrible but the wind was light so I hit the airport for some in the end not very sprinty Sprint-Intervals. Meh; it was my first time at the airport in months.

By chance tho I fell in with a dude even older that I am — 79 year-young 1-Speeder John. He sometimes flips his wheel to ride fixed but today was a free day for him.

Clearly he’s the one on the left

I managed to get a good but much too long video of us on our laps. Any committed cyclist that old eschewing gears is an inspiration.

Yes, I wore my Sloth outfit

Against The Wind

More wind than expected out there. I’m still on 48/17 so rigged for some uphill but even then it was tough going. Many e-bikes tho.

All the peep-toads were silent so I’m guessing the Spring Snakes have eaten well.

Had to pedal-through my first cramp of the year

Mr Tib on a nearly Spring day

Temps in the low 60s so a very chilly Spring day but I enjoyed it. I tried dangerous Davidson again but not in the “protected” bike lane. One close call with an Amazon truck is one too many. I did the standard loop for about 5 miles and the legs felt fine. Tree-work up Frisbee Golf Hill so I stayed on the flats and did a few more standard loops, testing for puddles. As all was dry I went to the back loop & then came home. 23 miles at a pretty good clip.

Ought to be a good season

Avoiding the rain

Plus the wind was on the unpleasant side, even for 17 teeth. I’m still over half a mile behind my 7 mile 20 minute plan but I have no worries. I maintained 55 rpm easily when I wanted & sprinted in the 60s.

It looks like the new AirBike actually has a Battery Remaining Indicator bug on the screen. On the previous bike it was the rather sudden screen-dimming followed by total screen failure — often while riding — that made you pit in fresh batteries. Quite the upgrade
