Relentless Wind

I had planned yesterday to ride the Halfbike before the wind increased but missed my window. In penance today I had planned to do some Airport Sprints in the 12 mph wind. Ha! The wind was in the 20s with gusts in the 30s — so I did my new-regular Davidson-Shelby Park loop and enjoyed the climbing-gear.

To my delight I had a Falcon or Hawk accompany me for a bit, flying at eye level with me until it found the tree it wanted.

Fixie in some Wind

I wanted to go Halfbiking but the gusts suggested otherwise so I took Mr. Tib out for 33 miles of good fighting. Few others out there and most were going the other direction— I look forward to the old Stadium route opening again.

With all the wind I have not put the sprinting wheel back on yet.

Fine Weather

Halfbiking in some wind

20 mph gusts are the most I can handle on the Halfbike because I’m basically a Sail so when I saw gusts in the high teens I decided to brave the elements.

Not many folks out there riding at noon and fortunately almost no traffic but the gear-trucks setting up the bandstands for the marathon.

There are no bad Halfbike rides

Fighting some wind

My plan had been too take the Halfbike out to avoid any slick bridges but the wind never fell out of the high teens so I went with the Fixie on 17 teeth. I was by no means alone out there; I’m guessing most of the e-bikes were rented by tourists but a few old-school jersey riders were out too.

I may have seen two dead snakes — never a good omen.

Clearly I had problems with some apps

Halfbiking

It didn’t feel too windy on the roads of Shelby Hills but Davidson was in a constant strong crosswind & I’m lucky that traffic was light. Halfbikes turn you into sails at the mercy of every wind.

I gambled correctly that 3 laps around the “infield” of the park wd get me to 10 miles. Then all I needed was a safe way home. Only had Davidson again to work with.

The route looks rather like a Preying Mantis

Against the wind

Too much wind today for the Halfbike so I took Mr Tib out for a 26 mile wind-fight. My tires were green from pollen but it was the wind which was difficult.

The Coming Storm

I look forward to the new Stadium mostly so Davidson will have a natural loop=around again, but today I used 5th & then back up Cutcher to make a loop.

The park itself was nearly empty.

One day these will be the Good Old Days
