Halfbiking in some Humidity

The storm held-off all day so I took Jeanne out for a good 10 miles in almost no traffic. We still have some construction on two new restaurants so I have what I call one Bad Corner where there can be debris & oddly-parked cars to dodge but mostly everyone has left town for the 4th.

Since I’m getting better at fitting 10 miles into my hour ride I added two golf-club parking-lot loops to get-in more Left Turns — which I still find difficult.

A good day

Braving The Heat

I aimed at the Lowering Humidity part of the day and indeed the humidity reduced but I foolishly avoided drinking my Liquid IV [I only have one bottle-carrier] in a timely manner & fatigued quickly & deeply & lost 7 pounds — all of it necessary to maintain speed & climb the steep hills leading me back home.

A dumb way to do things all around.

Every indicator shows I was working too hard.

Had a bit of humidity

But the park called anyway. I figured an early start wd be best but experience says humidity drops during the day so the joke was on me. Plenty sweaty but plenty fun too.

Way more folks out there today than I expected

Halfbike Crash

I was turning right when my back-up left ear-bud popped out & like a dope I leaned over to the left to catch it. Halfbikes don’t balance like ordinary bikes.

Knee to asphalt deep scrape.

Still a good ride

Halfbike in little traffic

I missed my 10 AM window but still had few cars to dodge on East Nashville streets. Fan Fair is over and the Air B&Bs are empty. One of my regular hills allows street-parking on both sides rendering it actually a one lane two-way road. It’s easy to get caught in difficult positions on that road with out-of-town drivers, but today smooth pedaling.

I can officially say my Insta360 camera — now a month old — has out-lived every GoPro I’ve ever owned. An excellent weird camera.

I’m beginning to hunger for 15 mile Halfbike rides

FanFair traffic kept me indoors

I’m not complaining. I like FanFair. We get to hear various concerts just by opening the windows. This year the temperature has been less scalding and the rain stayed mostly away.

Yet the traffic increase isn’t much fun while on a bike.

I’m still struggling to make 7 miles in 20 minutes & 10 miles in 30 minutes. Echo is one tough ride

End of a tough week

Muggy Fixie Ride

The construction on Davidson even not near the new stadium includes Flagmen to manage the sometimes single lane traffic. I have not yet trained them to notice my approach & wave me through. That means I’m not riding enough.

Once I got my 3 laps of Davidson done I rode in the park nearly alone. The fawns are big & very adventurous; I saw 5 of them so that means I didn’t see 50.

Halfbiking through some Construction

The city is finally improving the broadband infrastructure on 17th. They picked a hot humid day to do it but 17th is so little traveled save for Frothy Monkey parking that I had the road nearly — but for the workers — all to myself.

I’m continually surprised by the differences between Biking Fixed and Halfbiking. While I know that Halfbiking — since I can’t sit — has improved my Fixie Climbing I’m still surprised at how differently effortful is Halfbiking up moderately steep hills in Shelby Hills. Since there is no Frame Stiffness through which to transfer one’s effort bodily via grip-strength & torque & body-swaying, the power inevitably comes from single-leg squatting on the pedals & which angle you take with reference to the ground or to the angle of the ground.

It’s a Torah.
