More Aurora

After a perfectly dreadful fight with a new tv’s poorly designed remote I rode Aurora for 11.1 miles over 35 minutes. I followed a different Plateau pattern this time: 5 minutes in the 40s, 5 minutes in the 50s, one minute in the 60s, 15 minutes in the 50s, and 4 minutes in the 40s. Over 10 of those minutes were reverse pedaling.

Aurora in the Heat

I missed my Cool Morning Window this morning so I took my w0 minute Aurora Ride in the afternoon. 5 minutes in the 40s, 10 minutes in the 50s, 5 minutes in the 40s with one minute all reverse pedaling.

The MapMyRide app calculates such as 18.9 mph but no indoor speed calculation is ever accurate.

Climbing Gear in some Heat

I got Mr Tib a new chain — one long enough to accommodate my 14 teeth Sprinting Gear and my 18 teeth Climbing Gear, a configuration common on Flip-Floppers or wheels with one gear on one side and a different gear on the other side. Grand Tours were initially ridden by dudes with Flip-Flop Fixies.

My top-speed in my Climbing Gear appears to be 15.2 mph —at least that’s how fast I ever got pedaling. But the uphills were nearly effortless and I managed many of them sitting down.

I had grown so accustomed to my 16 teeth General Purpose gear back there that I had forgotten how comforting it is simply to climb leisurely.

I climbed every hill available but 3 and hit 1776 feet of Up over 42 miles. I did not have those 3 final miles in my legs but it’s only July.

I did have an odd encounter with a couple guys in a car. I’m half certain they tried to target me for something but I managed to avoid getting trapped. Something to ponder for a bit.

177 is a good Sprinting number so to find it Uphill is encouraging.

Not exactly a Breaking Away moment

I got stuck on a Shelby Downhill behind this behemoth but that’s the price of Progress. I don’t particularly care for Downhills anyway since I have to pedal all the way down. Fixies can’t Coast.

Stadium Loop. More Bleachers and Security Walls & Fences

They are moving quickly in setting-up our car race.

Tinkering With The Seat-Height

Looking for where I’m losing some power. My tweaked right leg doesn’t explain all that going on, so I’m making some adjustments.

The humidity was dropping at the time but it still caught me by surprise.

It’s easy to see the Me Sad Field laps from the peaks & valleys.

They are still putting up bleachers.

You can hear the Opera Music Exxon blares to dissuade vagrants

Low Humidity, Big Gear

I took advantage of the lovely low humidity today for a better-fueled 45 miler [what I call a Gastrique for impious reasons] , to make-up for my previous less-than-adequate showing. They are still putting-up bleachers for our car race so the streets around Me Sad Field were much cleaner than usual & also less trafficked.

Although I kept it Traditionally Wednesday Flat I managed 1551 feet of Up and kept the high 14s nearly till the end. I’m starting to believe my seat is a tad too high but I’ll test for that later.

Shelby Park was nearly deserted; I’m thinking many looked at the Temperature instead of the Humidity.

My inability to ride well at 80% heart-rare & sprint up into the 90s reflects my damaged leg & relatively rare rides these last 2 years. Both correctable.

Both screen-right & screen-left show the Bleachers

Since our bridge will be used for racing the cops moved the Party Jail onto the road.

The Portable Jails are squat & grey on the right

We are expecting quite the rowdy crowd at the races.

Recovery Aurora

J’essaye de devenir encore un Chaque Jour cycliste and I really need to practice my French. At any rate today became an Aurora Day at 2:30. I alternated 5 mile intervals spinning RPMs in the mid 40s and in the mid 50s for 25 minutes. 7.3 not debilitating miles.

It’s a start.

Poor Planning

I ordinarily eat very well the day before a ride even of moderate distance but Saturday I did not behave ordinarily. Saturday was supposed to be a riding day but the rain we needs so much finally arrived so I moved Riding Day to Sunday. Alas I ate poorly & had a difficult ride.

Still, all rides are good rides.

I could not make myself find those 3 final miles I usually put into a Gastrique, but was pleasantly surprised by the Elevation Gained number for such a flat ride.

Still in the Sprinting Gear but I avoided the Airport due to the wind.

They are setting-up the bleachers again for our non-Formula One race. Always good to see us getting some good exposure plus they sweep the streets more often for the Professionals.
